Painter Mo Jee-Sun
“We need to carve out and tap into the global market by dissolving the boundaries between the East and the West” -- Mo Jee-Sun
Mo Jee-Sun is a recognized artist who relentlessly seeks to change her art realm.
Korea’s prominent painter-sculptor Mo Jee-Sun has garnered big attention from many art lovers at home and abroad by coming up with a series of creative nude croquis and drawing works trough a lot of exhibitions in such international cities as Seoul and Busan in Korea and New York, Paris , Berlin, Vienna and Shanghai .
Since the early days of her professional career, Mo’s artistic landscape has been varied and ever-changing. She has been showing off her kaleidoscopic artistic talents by hosting a great many solo exhibitions, including   “Light of History” and “Drawing K-Classic”, and taking part in a number of group exhibitions at home and abroad. But there are her own hue and tone in the inner side.
In particular, her drawings have been much acclaimed by art lovers for their energetic expressions exuding vividness and liveliness that come from Korea’s traditional spirit, rhyme, living and dynamism.
Mo’s salient talents and well-trodden skills have induced many galleries and art fair organizers to invite her to their events. In January, Mo took part in the “Singapore Contemporary” art fair and has been invited by curator Suechung Koh, also the director of Gallery d’Arte in New York, as a special exhibitor to an art show scheduled from March 15 to 31. She already has been invited to art fairs in Vienna and the Netherlands in May and June, respectively.
The reason why her art pieces continue to catch the eye of art lovers, critics and even other artists can be explained by her relentless efforts either to think outside the box of the existing art genres or to replace them with new and stunning conceptual themes.
For instance, Mo discovered Korea’s own traditional artistic spirit and soul from frescos she saw during her trips to countries such, as Greece, along the Silk Road, and tried to dissolve them into her artwork and thus create diversity in her work. As a result, large-scale masterpiece oil paintings have been born under her hand and seal.
In addition, Mo also met with music. She draws a nude sketch of a dynamic orchestra conductor and videos her artworks. She is known to be very optimistic and have an aggressive approach in life, and her belief that the aesthetic value, philosophy and proprietorship of the art pieces should be shared with everyone has been keeping up the momentum of the colorful change in her paintings. This made her come to encounter “K-Classic.”
When asked why a painter studies and draws music, she just smiles and answers, “Because I just like it.’
Mo stresses that artists have to meet and handle a wide variety of innovative technologies if they want to lead the global change.
In this context, Mo has invented a new art category on her own. It’s called “Playing-Drawing”, or “Living-Drawing”, to draw moving paintings or sketches.  It’s different from animated films. During the upcoming New York show in March, her show, titled “Sound of Movement”, is set to focus on the mentioned drawings. One of them features a sketched naked violinist playing his musical instrument and playing around the world, with the backgrounds showing Mo’s works. This four-minute “movement” of drawing may be the first such artwork to be unveiled in the world of art, according to her. She added that she hopes that the drawing would be displayed on the walls or huge outdoor advertisement boards on roads in the center of major cities around the world.
The painter’s energetic activities to collapse the borders between the present artistic categories have made her artworks be hailed everywhere they go across the globe. She has already gained fame by giving birth to a series of novel exhibitions, including “Drawing K-Classic” and  “Drawing Edinburgh Festival”, which represent her efforts to break the boundaries.
“In our childhood, we all may have experienced the joy and shock when we saw a fairy tale we read in the book being reborn as an animated film in a Walt Disney motion picture,” said Mo, adding that she hopes her lively artworks will be able to make all the people happy. As such, Mo always wants to remain as an influential artist who stays today and can open up tomorrow as well. So, many say she deserves a plenty of accolades at her table thanks to her enthusiasm and gusto to build her own arena with her own artworks.
She says she will never lay down her paint brush, inspired by writers, musicians and other cultural figures, as well as digital savvy.
